Grain Driers Demand Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is crucial when constantly developing agricultural machinery. Mecmar has been doing this with mobile grain driers since the early 1980s. This process has resulted in hundreds if not thousands of improvements, alterations and adjustments to the original design of the grain driers all with the aim of maximising performance, reliability and durability. This long process of design and improvement, trial and error allows the farmer to have confidence in the Mecmar grain drier.

Galvanising ensures Mecmar grain driers are built to last

In my previous post I discussed the return on investment offered by on-farm grain drying. Essentially, the longer the machine operates effectively the greater the financial returns. Whilst longevity depends on many things including correct operation and regular maintenance, it is most significantly influenced by the quality of the design and engineering. Mecmar have identified the need for extensive galvanising to lengthen the operational life of its grain driers as a basic engineering requirement.

Hot dip galvanising is the process of coating steel with a thin layer of zinc. This is achieved by passing the metal through a molten bath of zinc at a temperature of around 460°C. When exposed to the atmosphere the pure zinc reacts with oxygen, forming Continue reading ‘Galvanising ensures Mecmar grain driers are built to last’

Mecmar grain driers offer reliable return on investment

Below is a short piece of editorial for an upcoming LAMMA preview in the Farmers Guide. In this current period of healthy grain prices I believe careful thought must be given to the economic performance of an investment in grain drying capacity over its entire operational life. The length of a driers operational life has the most significant impact upon its return on investment.

Many factors will affect the price of wheat over the coming months. The unpredictable affects of weather on global crop production and quality impact upon global supply and demand balances. These then influence government decisions on trade interventions, the primary cause of the recent upturn in the grain market.

Why Mecmar use Riello industrial oil burners

It is widely recognised that the burner is one of the most critical components on a grain drier. It is crucial in terms of safety, performance and reliability. Mecmar has always specified Riello burners for all oil-fired grain driers. The entire range of Mecmar grain driers utilise the Riello RL series, from the RL50 on the Super 7 to the RL190 on the F60.

Riello Group has been manufacturing burners since the 1920s and today is the world leader in the production of burners for the heating industry. They invest heavily in product innovation including research centres for combustion, boilers and co-generation.  Riello is always working to set new standards in terms of efficiency, reliability and reduction in energy consumption.

The Riello RL Series is a two stage modulating burner, using a primary and secondary jet to control the level energy produced. The burners are fitted with a microprocessor-based control panel, which supplies indication of burner status and fault causes, ensuring quick and easy diagnosis of any problems. Performance is optimised through Continue reading ‘Why Mecmar use Riello industrial oil burners’

New Mecmar Super Range performing strongly in UK

Many will have already seen previous posts about Mecmar’s new Super Range. Having been re-designed and extensively improved they are performing strongly on their debut season in the UK. The Super Range currently consists of a 7 and 10 tonne capacity drier.

The Super Range is a smaller variant of Mecmar’s larger capacity driers that maintains the same high levels of design and specification. This has been reflected in initial on-farm results in the UK. The driers are exceeding expectations in terms of throughput and farmers have commented on the ease of use and flexibility offered.

Below is a new slideshow presenting the Mecmar Super Range and some of the key features.

New Mecmar Super Range mobile batch grain driers arrive in the UK

The first new Mecmar Super Range grain driers have just arrived in the UK. The Super Range was first manufactured by Mecmar in the 1980s and has been revived this season. It is a small capacity mobile batch grain drier with a simple and robust design that retains the high level of specification featured on the entire Mecmar range.

The Mecmar Super Range has been re-designed and put back into production to meet the demand of two key customers in the UK:

  • Smaller arable farms looking to on farm drying to maximise the value of their product before sale
  • Livestock farms using on farm drying to minimise operational costs associated with producing and storing their own feed

The Mecmar Super Range features a drier with a 7 tonne capacity and a larger machine with a 10 tonne capacity. The range is generally suitable for farms drying up to and around Continue reading ‘New Mecmar Super Range mobile batch grain driers arrive in the UK’
