Mecmar Factory – Powered by the Sun

Earlier in the month a new solar panel plant was installed and turned on at the Mecmar factory, near Verona.

The up take in photovoltaic (PV) panels in the UK agriculture market looked set to be significant but recent cuts to the feed-in tariff scheme have taken the shine off the returns. In Italy the sun is in much better supply and the factory has recently installed a solar plant on its extensive roof space.

The energy generated by the panels provides power for the manufacturing plant and accompanying office space. The solar plant is part of a long-term commitment to reducing manufacturing costs while also helping the environment. Below are some pictures of the new installation.

Farmers Weekly – Mecmar Drier Gets More Versatile

MecmarEarlier this week Mecmar attended the UK Grain 2011 exhibition at the East of England Showground at Peterborough. The event was a good opportunity to showcase our latest improvements to our range of mobile grain driers. It was also an opportunity for Farmers Weekly to have a chat with Stewart regarding the latest tweaks to our automatic systems.

Below is the short article produced by Farmers Weekly, look out for it in one of the upcoming issues.

“One of the biggest trends in mobile driers has been the move to automated control system that mean they can largely be left on their own to get on with the job. However farmers often want to still retain some ability to make changes even when an automatic system is working.  Continue reading ‘Farmers Weekly – Mecmar Drier Gets More Versatile’

Mecmar Refurbishment – Recent Projects

Recent years have seen an increasing interest in high quality secondhand grain driers. To meet this demand we started to extensively refurbish Mecmar grain driers. Using the experience of working on new grain driers we are able to undertake highly challenging refurbishment projects. The high standard of our refurbished driers means they carry the same warranty as a brand new Mecmar grain drier.

Build quality has always been the principal area of focus for Mecmar grain driers making them particularly suitable for refurbishment. The robust chassis design, highly specified wearing parts and inox stainless steel screens are just a few of the factors that contribute to the Mecmar driers durability. Since the 1990s Mecmar drier’s have been designed to be increasingly modular making on farm maintenance of the drier simpler, while also allowing thorough refurbishment to be undertaken.

Mecmar Farmers – Steve Lee, Blackdog, Devon

Following on from a recent interview with Andy Pendry of Burden Bros, Kent. Another grower has brought the Mecmar grain drier to the pages of the Farmers Weekly. This time in an interview published today on FWi, Devon farmer Steve Lee, talked to Farmers Weekly about harvest progress to date.

So far this harvest has seen his 80ha of oilseed rape cut in just three days and also consistently exceeding yield expectations. Despite the dry spell over which the oilseed rape was cut the moisture content varied between 8 and 13%. This allowed Mr Lee to try out his new Mecmar grain drier, an S 40 T, which he said got on extremely well.

Grain Driers Demand Attention to Detail

Attention to detail is crucial when constantly developing agricultural machinery. Mecmar has been doing this with mobile grain driers since the early 1980s. This process has resulted in hundreds if not thousands of improvements, alterations and adjustments to the original design of the grain driers all with the aim of maximising performance, reliability and durability. This long process of design and improvement, trial and error allows the farmer to have confidence in the Mecmar grain drier.

The Mecmar grain drier factory

Mecmar has been active as a manufacturer in the agricultural industry since the 1960′s. In the early 1980′s Mecmar began to specialise in grain drying equipment. Mecmar now has the most up to date and modern grain drier manufacturing plant in the Europe following the completion of a new assembly and warehousing hall complete with additional office space.

Mecmar grain driers are specifically designed to allow rapid manufacture of any model from the extensive stock of componentry held in the factory. This allows Mecmar to deliver new driers right up to the beginning of and into the harvest period. The ability to quickly manufacture and deliver new driers to UK farms marginalises the need for farmers to compromise on specification by selecting from stock driers held in the UK as harvest nears.

The photos were taken during a trip to the factory earlier this month.

Mecmar grain driers manufacturer attains ISO 9001:2008 status

Last month it was confirmed that the manufacturer of Mecmar grain driers, Mecmar SPA, achieved the prestigious ISO 9001:2008 accreditation. Mecmar are the only mobile grain drier manufacturer to currently hold this internationally recognised certification. The ISO standard requires the implementation of quality management systems that are designed to help a company ensure the needs of customers and other stakeholders are met.

What ISO certification means

The ISO 9001:2008 accreditation is gained through putting in place manufacturing control systems which meet the high standards of the International Organisation for Standardisation. This involves stringent levels of quality management throughout the design and manufacturing process of Mecmar grain driers.

Furthermore, independent confirmation of this achievement and periodic re-assessment is co Continue reading ‘Mecmar grain driers manufacturer attains ISO 9001:2008 status’

Mecmar UK – mobile grain drier technical review

Throughout the year Mecmar organise Technical Reviews for its engineering staff and accredited service engineers from around the UK. The reviews offer an opportunity to focus on a specific aspects of the grain driers. They allow those supporting Mecmar grain driers to extend their technical knowledge and understanding. It also presents the opportunity for practical experience to be shared within the network of Mecmar engineers.

Yesterday saw the most recent technical review held at Mecmar’s main UK depot near Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Early October is a particularly good time to have a reveiw as the harvest workload is still fresh in the mind. Continue reading ‘Mecmar UK – mobile grain drier technical review’

Mecmar Grain Driers in Britain and Ireland

Mecmar Driers (2000) Ltd. was created by Stewart McArthur in 1999 and is the sole importer of Mecmar grain driers in the UK. At the time Mecmar had a small presence in Britain, however,  the machine was highly regarded by those farmers who used them and had already developed a reputation for strong performance, reliability and durability.

Over the last 10 years Mecmar has grown steadily to become the leading mobile grain drier in Britain and Ireland. This development was due to the outstanding quality of the Mecmar machine supported by clear thinking and straight talking. Mecmar Driers (2000) Ltd. is a farm owned company, we do not only sell the machines but we also use them. This gives us a clear insight into the important considerations for existing and prospective customers. It is the basis for much of our technical and practical expertise.

Mecmar Driers (2000) Ltd. maintain a very strong working relationship with our manufacturer Mecmar S.p.A., you will even see the Managing Director, Giovanni Marcolongo, posting on this blog in due course. This relationship ensures that Mecmar driers are constantly improving based on the feedback of farmers from all over Britain and Ireland. The unique relationship with our manufacturer allows us to offer unparalleled flexibility when it comes to specifying Mecmar grain driers for customers. This constant process of farmer engagement and innovation ensures Mecmar will remain the leading mobile grain drier on the market.
